Here is a wonderful clip from a 1925 German film titled Wege zu Kraft und Schönheit (Ways to Strength and Beauty). I’d seen a few seconds of the Jaques-Dalcroze Hellerau footage in another film, and asked Dalcroze/dance historian Selma Odom about it. She knew the film right away.

This is a clear example of the “Physical Culture” movement is its various forms. I’ve added beginning and ending points to highlight the part about Jaques-Dalcroze’s work, but the whole film is fascinating.

(I highly recommend turning your volume OFF. The soundtrack doesn’t relate, and the music of the movement is much clearer without it.)
