April 18-20, 2013 – Toronto
The Society of Dance History Scholars and York University are hosting a conference to commemorate the centennial of Le Sacre du Printemp’s historic premiere.
Monica Dale will teach a session on Friday afternoon titled, “Dalcroze Eurhythmics: Experiencing an Aesthetic.” This workshop connects with a paper session presented by scholars from Brazil, and contrasts the modernism of Le Sacre with a more accepted aesthetic of Paris, 1913. Jaques-Dalcroze (and Isadora Duncan) reflected a 19th-century sensibility. This session explores them to discover the cultural clash of Le Sacre from the other side.
