Maria writes the following teaching suggestions:
1. Initially practice singing and stepping forward
only on the numbers
2. Next, add a clap on the words (rhythm patterns)
3. From here you can go in many directions:
- Choose one rhythmic pattern to focus on that day,
repeat that section of the song a few times both while saying the words
and then without words as a springboard into the lesson.
- Focus only on the scale and have the students sing
only the numbers, then perform a silent movement for the words. This
would be a fun activity to do while walking up stairs.
- By having the students clap when they sing odd
numbers, they can discover the crusis of each measure.
- Branch into thirds by having the (older) students
sing only on the odd or even numbers. They could perform this while
stepping on a number line and jumping to the next number as they sing. |
